Statistics
The Energy Department of the Velocity Interoperability Network publishes statistics on the supply it oversees and the services it provides: electricity supplied, demand by site, the generation mix, supply interruptions and availability, installation inspections and connection applications. This first release covers the transition period from 10 August to 5 September 2026, during which member organisations transferred their energy functions to the Department, and records the position at establishment on 6 September 2026.
The figures are drawn from the metering of the generating stations and primary substations, from the log of the supply control room, and from the registers transferred to the Department by member organisations. Figures for the transition period are provisional and will be revised in later releases where late returns are received.
The position at establishment. The figures below record the Department at the point of establishment.
- 412 MW
- Generating capacity serving the Network at establishment
- 11
- Connections on the register: nine connected, one accepted and one under assessment
- 2,316
- Certified installations on the register at establishment
- 148
- Installers on the register at establishment
Activity during the transition. Before the Department was established, the generating stations, the control room and the inspection of installations continued under interim arrangements. The activity recorded under those arrangements is shown below so that the series is continuous with the Department's own reporting.
| Measure | 10 to 23 August | 24 August to 5 September | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Electricity supplied (GWh) | 63.1 | 65.3 | 128.4 |
| Renewable output (GWh) | 23.6 | 24.8 | 48.4 |
| Unplanned supply interruptions | 2 | 3 | 5 |
| Planned outages completed | 4 | 3 | 7 |
| Installation inspections carried out | 118 | 134 | 252 |
| Installations found defective | 8 | 11 | 19 |
| Connection applications received | 9 | 12 | 21 |
| Connection offers issued | 3 | 6 | 9 |
The rise in inspections and connection applications between the two halves of the period reflects the completion of the transfer of registers and the publication of the incoming Department's procedures. Peak demand of 286 megawatts was recorded at 18:40 on 27 August 2026; average demand over the period was 198 megawatts.
Output by station. The table below records the capacity and output of each generating station, its load factor over the period and its share of the electricity supplied. Load factor is output as a proportion of the output the station would have produced at full capacity throughout the period.
| Station | Capacity | Output | Load factor | Share of supply |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ridgeway Gas Turbine Station | 180 MW | 52.1 GWh | 44.7% | 40.6% |
| Southbank Combined Heat and Power Station | 64 MW | 27.9 GWh | 67.3% | 21.7% |
| Fenmoor Wind Array | 96 MW | 29.1 GWh | 46.8% | 22.7% |
| Eastfield Solar Array and rooftop arrays | 48 MW | 8.3 GWh | 26.7% | 6.5% |
| Coldwater Hydro Station | 24 MW | 11.0 GWh | 70.7% | 8.6% |
| Total | 412 MW | 128.4 GWh | 48.1% | 100% |
Supply availability. Five unplanned interruptions were recorded during the period. Availability is the proportion of the period during which each site was supplied, and the Network figure is weighted by the demand of each site.
| Site | Interruptions | Time without supply | Availability |
|---|---|---|---|
| Central Exchange | 0 | 0 minutes | 100% |
| Southbank Terminal | 1 | 17 minutes | 99.96% |
| Northgate Relay | 1 | 23 minutes | 99.94% |
| Westbrook Distribution Site | 1 | 41 minutes | 99.90% |
| Eastfield Campus | 1 | 8 minutes | 99.98% |
| Meridian Court | 1 | 1 hour 12 minutes | 99.82% |
| Six principal sites, weighted by demand | 5 | 2 hours 41 minutes | 99.97% |
Capacity from September 2026. The figures below record the capacity the Department has established for its first months of operation.
- 40 MW
- Minimum generating reserve held by the control room at all times
- 22
- Installation inspectors certifying and inspecting installations from establishment
- 412
- Installations whose periodic inspection falls due before 31 December 2026
- 84 MW
- Renewable generating capacity to be added under the Renewable Programme by 2029
The Department will publish statistics quarterly, alongside the Generation and Supply Statement. The next release, covering the quarter ending 30 September 2026, will be published in October 2026 and announced in the Newsroom. For the stations these figures report on, see Generation and Supply; for the interruptions, see Outages and Emergencies; for the programme against which the renewable share is measured, see the Renewable Programme.
