Energy Department Publishes First Generation and Supply Statement

The Energy Department of the Velocity Interoperability Network today published its first Generation and Supply Statement. The statement records the generating capacity serving the Network at establishment, the demand met during the transition period from 10 August to 5 September 2026, and the generation mix from which that demand was supplied.

Five generating stations with a combined capacity of 412 megawatts serve the Network: Ridgeway Gas Turbine Station, Southbank Combined Heat and Power Station, Fenmoor Wind Array, Eastfield Solar Array together with rooftop arrays at the principal sites, and Coldwater Hydro Station. During the transition period 128.4 gigawatt hours of electricity were supplied, peak demand reached 286 megawatts on the evening of 27 August, and supply availability across the six principal sites was 99.97 per cent.

Of the electricity supplied, 40.6 per cent came from gas turbine generation, 21.7 per cent from combined heat and power, 22.7 per cent from wind, 6.5 per cent from solar and 8.6 per cent from hydro. The renewable share of output, 37.7 per cent, is the baseline against which the Renewable Programme will be measured.
