Energy Department Announces Renewable Programme Schedule

The Energy Department of the Velocity Interoperability Network today published the schedule of its Renewable Programme. The programme sets a target for 60 per cent of the electricity supplied to the Network to come from renewable sources by 31 December 2030, against a baseline of 37.7 per cent measured during the transition period.

Six projects make up the programme. The extension of Eastfield Solar Array by 12 megawatts enters commissioning on 1 December 2026. Surveys for 18 megawatts of rooftop solar across the six principal sites begin in October 2026, with installation through 2027. Construction of the second phase of Fenmoor Wind Array, adding twelve turbines and 48 megawatts, begins in spring 2027 for commissioning in 2028, alongside a 30 megawatt, 120 megawatt hour battery at Central Exchange. The uprating of Coldwater Hydro Station by 6 megawatts follows in 2029, and a feasibility study into converting Southbank Combined Heat and Power Station to biomethane reports in 2027.
